is the working theme for the 2011 international conference being held in Victoria, BC, Canada. Health informatics is now a global phenomenon, supporting the organization and delivery of healthcare across the globe, both in developing and developed countries. With the establishment of the Middle East Association of Health Informatics (MEAHI), IMIA (the International Medical Informatics Association) now provides regional coverage of all parts of the world. This is reflected in international conference activity in both developed and developing countries with strong IMIA involvement. Recent successful examples include Helina 2009 in Grand Bassam (Ivory Coast), Nursing Informatics 2009 in Helsinki (Finland) and the Collaborative Meetings in Health Informatics 2009 in Hiroshima (Japan). This year Medinfo 2010 takes place in Cape Town, South Africa, and will, as usual, offer a forum in which to report a wide range of developments across the spectrum of health informatics.
Now, as we look ahead to 2011, Health Informatics: International Perspectives will provide a unique opportunity to focus on international comparisons. Major lessons will be there to be learnt by both developed and developing communities as health informatics becomes ever more central to the organization and delivery of healthcare across the globe.
